The End of the Year Book Tag
Merry end of the year!
I saw this via Imyril's blog last week and all credit for the idea should go to Ariel Bissett for creating The End of the Year Book Tag. I keep meaning to do more of these and this holds me to account for the last few weeks of December.
Is there a book that you started that you still need to finish by the end of the year?
A couple I’m very keen on finishing next week
- Blindspace by Jeremy Szal an actiona packed space opera I’m enjoying hugely
- The Horizon by Gautam Bhatia – the sequel to the stunning The Wall in one of the most thoughtful fantasy novels I’d read for ages
- Parable of the Talents by Octavia E Butler – I’m very keen to complete my voyage in Butler’s works by New Year’s Eve
- Absynthe by Brendan Bellecourt which sounds up my street too
Do you have an autumnal book to transition to the end of the year?
I’d quite like to read the Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper around the solstice. It’s a strange mix of Christmas and pagan settings and perfect for a very long dark night.
Name Three books you want to read by the end of the year
Hollow Empire by Sam Hawke I’m very keen to read the final book in this creative epic fantasy duology
Black Coast by Mike Brooks – this epic tale needs by brain space and my week off is perfect timing for that. Then I can read the sequel!
Son of the Storm by Suyi Davies Okungbowa – another story I just need a comfy chair and a few hours to read in it with
Is there a book that can still shock you and become your favourite of the year?
Always and three candidates are She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker Chan; Shards of Earth by Adrian Tchaikovsky and A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine – all on my must read sheet.
Have you started making reading plans for 2022?
Nearly I need to sort out my ARC calendar and I’ve a major project to ensure I keep taking one a week out of Mount TBR too (one idea bubbling is to do some mini themed reading). Subjective Chaos will be calling for its fifth year. I would also like to get into reading short story magazines again.
