The Week in Womble aka ticking along
Hellooo! I’m getting consistent. A bit of a trudge this week at work so the hours were a bit long and not much happened. Caught up with a friend in the first time for a few years and they walked away with a small list of recommendations (I’m all about public service). Finally booked some time off which should allow for some long weekend to read and get a few more house jobs done.
Subjective Kind of Chaos Awards
So, the debates on reading are rather interesting. One thing about juries is what we look for in a book varies. This year in quite a few categories I think we will struggle to say right now who’s in front. I’ve five to read and a few other judges are still trying to finish so we hold off nominations until 10/7.
Totally doable!! Famous last words…
What I’m watching
Films
Oops – nada – would quite like to see Godzilla though.
TV
Farscape a weekly rewatch continues and if you’ve not seen this before and like Guardian of the Galaxy then go and get this joy into your eyeballs.
Still on the to do list - Chernobyl and finally try Killing Eve
What I’m - Listening to
errrrmmmm
What I’ve Reviewed
Finally, something to report
Salvation by Peter F Hamilton - a new SF trilogy from one of the UK’s biggest SF writers. Reminds a lot of Hyperion using interlinked stories and portal technology – the mystery of what causes the apparent fall of humanity is rather well done.
Green Valley by Louis Greenberg - I loved this it plays without views of technology and gives us a very dark and eerie future. I was genuinely disturbed at times and that is high praise!!
What I’m reading
Science fiction is largely still the theme
This week all the SF and a lot of space opera in the review cycle
Children of Ruin by Adrian Tchaikovsky – the sequel to one of the best SF novels and I don’t even mind the spiders!
Rosewater Insurrection by Tade Thompson - a belated catch up on this novel of aliens in Nigeria
Velocity Weapon by Megan E O’Keefe – VERY much looking forward to another bit of space opera
