The Week in Womble aka In the Bleak Midwinter

Helllooo! OK good news first dad is much better and at home while the evil conjunctivitis virus came as quickly as it left although took a bit a bit out of me. Yes, I skipped a week in womble for some reason the election passed my desire to chat; read or even blog. It has been a long year and the desire to fall asleep by 9 has run. But I now have a lengthy break and a chance to recharge. For those of us who wanted to see 2019 turn the tide of small-minded nationalism it sadly feels we all need a chance to take a step back and take a break. I fear the future feels bleak at the moment but I never believe everything stays one way forever; but for now we figuratively slouch to Bethlehem awaiting to see what gets born out of these troubled times.

But enough of socio-political despair for now (I am sure this will reappear in the near future)

What Have I been Watching?

Buffy Season 1 – What can I say the idea of plucky people taking on a Big Bad appealed. A touch of nostalgia; a reminder of 90’s fashion and some wonderful scripts and direction. Season 1 is very much a work in progress showing it was a mid-season replacement. You can see the bits that quickly get dropped off and what is to come. Season 2 resumes after Xmas.

Tonight, I see Rise of Skywalker and the end of the stories that have been running in my head for a long time. Star Wars will and hopefully definitely evolve post this and that’s something I really want to see but for now let’s see if they can end on a good note?

What Have I Been Listening To?

Nada!!

What have I reviewed or read?

The blog has been annoyingly quiet but two author interviews worth drawing your attention to. The author of the Wounded Kingdom and The Bone Ships RJ
Barker
and the author of Everything About You and The Undoing of Arlo Knott Heather Child.

I read the Mortal Word by Genevieve Cogman – review coming as part of a Happy Endings discussion

Next year developing a nice idea for an interesting readlong plus some other blog aims for next year so stay tuned for that and sorting out the January reading pile but once home from Star Wars time to get my reading on

What am I reading or coming soon?

Loads to do before the year is out but this week on imminent TBR

Legacy of Ash by Matthew Ward – a behemoth of a new fantasy tale but the first few chapters are excellent at grabbing my attention…

Mutant Empire by Christopher Golden – Marvel prose again and so far so good

The Secret Chapter by Genevieve Cogman – I fancy something lighter after a heavy week so Irene should help!

The Djinn Falls in Love edited by Mahvesh Murad and Jared Shurin – need to sit down and lose myself into this

The Nightjar by Deborah Hewitt – an interesting new fantasy series to try

Anathem by Neal Stephenson – this must end this year!!
