The Week in Womble aka Womble Leave Begins
Helloooo! Hope you’re still surviving the stormy weather and drying out. It was a very long week again in work with some very long days and reading time has been really curtailed each evening. On the bright side next week, I have to work just Monday then I’m off. I intend a giant tile of books and catch up on a lot of TV plus see friends and family.
I was feeling a bit frustrated as this has impacted my readalongs but sometimes other parts of my life will interfere and they may eb the ones that pay for the roof. I can replan so lets where I am up to this time next week.
What have I been watching?
Rubbish week I’ve been pretty much home too late to watch stuff
What have I been listening to?
Continuing Season 2 of Magnus Archives - up to episode 65
What have I been reading?
Runalong Readalongs
Bit of a busy week on one front I’ve reviewed Mort and Sourcery
Its getting fascinating reading these so quickly on top of each other that you can see the themes Pratchett retools and re-uses ideas. Sometimes it feels like they’re getting sharpened up and others used for comfort. I prefer at this stage where the boundaries get pushed.
Next week this needs the most catch-ups
Discworld – Wyrd Sisters
Farseer – Assassin’s Apprentice
Deverry – Darkspell
Octavia Butler – Mind of My Matter
Subjective Chaos
I’ve now got through the remaining novellas so expect full reviews of the new stories (and recaps on the rest)
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh
We Are Made of Diamond Stuff by Isabel Waidner
Incompleteness Theories by Wole Talabi
Bubbling under I have on my to do list All City by Alex Difranco and Godhunter by David Mogo)
Reviews and Reading
The Mercies by Kiran Millwood-Hargrave – I liked what this tale of a little known human horror exposes but I needed a little more to make the novel feel complete
The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne – loved the romance angle here but would have also liked just a little more of the world it created to be explored
What Am I Reading?
Oh gumdrops there is a lot on the imminent pile
Legacy of Ash by Matthew Ward – a week off is the perfect time to finish this not so wee fantasy epic
American Monsters Part 2 edited by Margret Helgadottir - time to read the rest of the entries in one of my favourite series
The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K S Villoso – time to meet the Bitch Queen with a new fantasy series
The Library of the Unwritten by A J Hackwith – ever wondered what happens to unfinished books?
Chilling Effect by Valerie Valdes - SF with kidnappers, emperors and psychic cats
Conviction by Denise Mina – fascinating thriller that has a mystery wrapped up with a crime podcast and a potential ghost story
The Golden Key by Marian Womack – gothic fantasy set in early twentieth century Norfolk Fens and I will have an exclusive extract here tomorrow!
The Unspoken Name by A K Larkwood – absolutely thrilled to get into this tale of magic, assassins and treachery
Dread Nation and Deathless Divide by Justina Ireland – Civil war tale with zombies
Finally, I WILL have some reading stats on influences when we grew up to show you!
