The Week in Womble aka the slow return to usual scheduling

Helloooo! Hmm one day I shall again manage a straight run again of weekly updates but I was definitely drifting up and down last few weeks. Balancing a very busy work period with a desire to just vegetate leads to weird up and down reading speeds. So outside of work things that have been getting done

- Sorting bookshelves (now all the categories sorted and just author name order to go)

- Finally getting some artwork framed that’s been in its tubes for years!

- Puzzling on the book of various convention stuff and finding many many complimentary bookmarks

- I have got flowerpots now

- The empty neighbours’ sprawling tree has been sent back to the shadowland i.e. the fence

- Short story collections are great for mini focus readings

- Graphic novels I caught up on too as I had a few from the library

I’m going in a slightly different direction this week so thought first up let’s talk about what’s coming soon rather than what I’ve been up to I podcast and TV. A lot o this past few weeks was passive stuff – but if looking for some weird games try guess which genre stereotype would live in a home like this in The World’s Most Extraordinary Homes on Netflix as we see various international mega-homes with the kind of designs that often scream Tony Stark or Blofeld. Beautifully shot, intriguing and relaxing.

Readalongs

This week I’ve restarted a few projects. I did a mammoth catch up on the other readalongs so expect this week my takes on Darkspell, The Warrior’s Apprentice and if I’m really lucky Guards Guards. I can go with a clean slate as of this week with Octavia E Butler’s Kindred. Was actually expecting to get to the third Patternmaster but chronologically this is next up and I’m intrigued top see how this book has built on the earlier themes (my first time reading what I am assured is a classic).

Subjective Chaos

With some energy ready to get back into the shortlist pile and the next category I want to get my teeth into is Blurred Boundaries (I do like my genre mash-ups). Expect soon reviews of

- The Kingdom by Jess Rothenberg

- The Strawberry Thief by Joanne Harris

- The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen

Future Blogging

Schedules the past few weeks in publishing are shifting like a politician’s excuse . But on the radar for imminent reading: -

- The City We Became by NK Jemisin (cos’ I am so ready for some brilliance and to restart my own challenge)

- Sexton Blake & The Great War (I was intrigued by this ARC as one of the first serialised British characters and this focuses on stories written around WW1)

- The Breach by M T Hill (urban exploration and wasps)

- The Last Human by Zack Jordan (self explanatory?)

I may also have a book tag or two so in the meantime keep safe
