The Week in Womble aka Blimey hot then wet then hot etc
Helloooo!
Hope you’re well? Personally, this week was all work and sweltering in the heat or avoiding storms – it would usually be Wimbledon in the UK so perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised the weather is all over the shop. So not too bad and I can already see a busy month ahead but for me that can be fun. I ventured into the town centre Sunday and it was very very quiet. Book twitter was not at all quiet – it was draining and painful. I am thinking about the situations I heard about and will try and get my thoughts in order soon but I so think this genre community needs to have a look at itself.
What did I watch?
My brain was zapped and bar catching up on Batwoman not sure I watched much – but it’s a great show that is finding its feet and I like that they are prepared to own the main character being gay.
Book-Tempting To The Max
A quick summary of books received last week is here https://www.runalongtheshelves.net/blog/2020/6/22/book-tempting-to-the-future to tempt you
What have I been reading?
Goldilocks by Laura Lam – a wonderful and powerful SF tale of our possible futures
The Alchemy Press Book of Horrors 2 edited by Peter Coleborn and Jan Edwards – a collection definitely for horror fans and be prepared to be uncomfortable
We Ride The Storm by Devin Madson – This was a great start to a new fantasy series
From The Shadows by G R Halliday - a new crime series set in Scotland that is on the edge of horror
What am I reading?
Firewalkers by Adrian Tchaikovsky – an SF novella from one of the best out there – count me in
Steel Frame by Andrew Skinner – this Subjective Chaos SF nominee has giant mecha!
The Outside by Ada Hoffman – and this one has AI gods and weirdness!
Hopefully that and Short Stories will be completed this weekend
Have fun!!
