The Week in Womble - out of deep cover!

Helloooooo!

So a few people have noticed I’ve been quiet recently so worth a quick update just to assure you I’m ok. My current work secondment was ending in a few weeks and there was quite a lot of uncertainty on what I’d be doing next. I quite like the area I work in and learning a new one and meeting new people via working from home isn’t always ideal for what I do. That got me worried and I’ve had my head down. Two weeks ago, though I’ve been urgently given a new secondment in the area. Quite juicy but I’ve had to get stuck in so some long days the past few weeks to clear my current work and get my head around a new one. So that should get back to nor mal levels of being busy next week but as a sign my stress levels are going down fast my reading has picked up pace to normal levels.

Thanks to people checking in with me much appreciated but thig are looking good! But with SCKA to finish and a bit of catching up I’m passing review requests for the rest of the summer while I play catch up. I can read quickly but sometimes you have to focus! But a lot of good stuff is a coming!

Things I played

So I fancied while stress something different and alongside gardening I also booted up the Playstation to play Spider-Man and Mass Effect. Spider-Man is grabbing my attention as it’s just a joy going round New York stopping crime and there is a very neat storyline I’m enjoying. Early days on Mass Effect but it reminds me a lot so far of Babylon 5 and that is never a bad thing!

What I’ve Been Watching

I finished the Good Place in two days (two last seasons so when stressed my brain goes visual) The Good Place a tale of four terrible people discovering that the Afterlife is not what they thought it would be is going to be one of the best comedies out there, smart, heart-warming, sad and funny all at once with a wonderful but not overloaded sense of continuity. Well worth a look!

Bit quiet last few weeks but Loki, Battlestar Galactica and Lupin are on the list!

What Have I been reading?

Threadneedle by Cari Thomas – a perfectly fine start to a new series. I liked the horror of school and growing up but did feel a little upper class and slow in places. Hopefully now series established the world future stories will pick up the pace.

The Unbroken by C L Clark – an absolutely excellent debut novel with a fantastic duo of characters representing two very different worldview. The kind of chewy themes I love to find in this genre.

The Little Sleep and No Sleep Til Wonderland Omnibus by Paul Tremblay – review to come but an unusual modern noir story that plays with narrative and reality

What am I Going to Read?

In the near future Thrones, damage, rabbits, Shards, Glass and an empire.

And so much more!! Good luck for the future – we will get there. See you in a week!
