The Week In Womble aka can't stop coming through
Helloooooo!
If my previous was wading through treacle this last and the one to come are coming to be high speed plate spinning. A lot of my job is passing things back and forth and I’ve a lot to clear. Days have been looong and tiring. Add in lockdown and some bad weather not much to report this week!

Quiet – really need to get out of house and tackle the backlog!
What I’ve Been Watching
Wandavision – Episode 3 plays with the seventies and again has that slight hint og something dark and nasty underneath. Hopefully as we reach middle act that scheme will be revealed!
Queens Gambit – watched the first episode of this non SF tale about a young orphan finding out she is aches prodigy. Compelling and I’m going to watch more next weekend
The Mandalorian – ok two years later I watch episode 1 – it was fine. Very much an SF western but my socks were not yet blown off
What Have I been Reading and Reviewing?
The Forever Sea by Joshua Phillip Johnson – In some ways the lyrical and inventive storytelling reminds me of RJ Barker’s The Bone Ships but this tale of ships that sail on a five mile sea of grass is a very different beast but a glorious one (review next week its out 26/1 and an interview with Joshua is a coming)
The Seep by Chana Porter – an unusual novella of an alien invasion where they have infected humanity by the water that they drink. Smart but weird tale exploring grief
Inscape by Louise Carey – Hugely impressive standalone fantasy tale I loved for how its world and scale goes truly epic. Well worth your time!
Inscape by Louise Carey – smart, dark, and inventive SF thriller that I think brings it into the 2020s. One to get hold of
The Route of Ice & Salt by Jose Luis Zarate (translated by David Bowles) – a queer vampire tale finally available in English with homages to Dracula that delivered so so much in language, theme and ability to challenge the genre. Fantastic

The Salvage Crew by Yudhanjaya Wijerante – a space salvage mission goes terribly wrong! Yay
Relics, Wrecks and Ruins edited by Aiki Flinthart – a hugely impressive anthology end of the month that includes Neil Gaiman, Ken Liu, Garth Nix, Angela Slatter, Jasper Fforde, James SA Corey and many more
Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse – Very much looking getting sucked into his tale of gods, magic and intrigue
